ACADEMIC SUCCESS PROGRAM
Purpose
The Child Focus Academic Success Program was created to develop and maintain programs of academic support and enrichment specifically for children in foster care that will enable them to achieve measurable improvement in test scores, read and comprehend at grade level, develop good study skills and homework habits, and provide a nurturing and supportive learning environment that will encourage effort and reward
success.
In-Home Tutoring
Matches children who have been identified by their
teacher and foster parents as being at-risk academically with an in-home
tutor for one-on-one tutoring sessions, generally a one-hour session two to
three times per week, for a ten month term. Tutoring sessions will be at the
home of the student unless prior arrangements are made for another location
such as school or library facilities. Tutoring sessions will generally be
focused on developing skills in reading, mathematics and homework. Tutors
are professionally trained.
The academic scholarship is intended to
provide financial aid and assist children in
the foster care system in pursuing their academic goals. In-home tutors
offer guidance, support and encouragement to inspire their assigned student
to pursue education and achieve their educational goals.
